Indigenous Peoples Health

This committee provides direction to ensure the Consortium supports Indigenous self-determination in research, research data sovereignty, as well as meaningful and culturally safe community engagement to advance the health and well-being of First Nations, Inuit, and Metis Peoples. Importantly, the committee will actively work to build capacity for Indigenous-led sleep research in Canada.

Initiatives

  • Facilitate workshops to initiate collaborations between Indigenous organizations, the Consortium, Public Health Agency of Canada and Mental Health Commission of Canada to identify the most relevant sleep-related research questions for Indigenous communities and map out a work plan.

  • Develop scholarships for Indigenous trainees to manage analyses, iterative knowledge exchange circles with Indigenous organizations, and dissemination.

  • Provide resources to co-develop Indigenous-led grant proposals (i.e., seed funding dedicated to consultations and piloting).

  • Co-develop/adapt/share sleep-related information and intervention tools with Indigenous communities.

  • Organize community outreach activities for sleep health promotion.
